Sri Lankan cuisine is one of the most complex cuisines in South Asia. It has been greatly influenced by the cuisine of South India due to its proximity to Sri Lanka, but also by other cuisines that were an important trading hub for colonial powers in the past. Despite its strong ties to South India, Sri Lankan cuisine is characterized by the delicacy and lightness of its flavors, the intense but balanced use of coconut milk, and the tasty and colorful tropical fruits and plants.
