Holy Basil (Bai Ka-Prao)

Bai Ka-Prao (ใบกะเพรา) is also called Holy Basil, Indian Basil, King Basil or tulsi. This special kind of basil is called holy because Hindus and Buddhists us this herb in religious rituals.

In Asia supermarkets it also can be found if you ask for “spicy basil”.

When cooking you always use the whole leaves and shortly stew them with your dish. The leaves have a strong and taste with light pepper flavors.

The most famous dish where you can use Holy Basil is Pad Ka-Prao – one of the most popular meals in Thailand.
