Hot springs and elephants (SEA 53)

Hot springs and elephants (SEA 53)

Last post: Silence: Arriving in Pai (SEA 52)

Pai has this aura of silence. Your steps slow down, like we had it on Koh Lipe. Pai is like an island without sea in the north of Thailand.

We met a nice guy from Bologna in Chiang Mai and we share our bungalow with him. Today we rented a scooter and we visited some (small and unimpressive) waterfalls, a viewpoint and the hot springs not far away from Pai. The hot springs are absolutely relaxing. I went there on my own ´cause the others had enough of them when they´ve been to New Zealand. On the top of the springs the water is 80 – 100 °C hot. You can buy eggs and some special nets at the entrance. Then you go to the top of the springs and boil them. At the bottom of the springs the water is “only” 34 – 36 °C warm and I relaxed in this little pools.

On the way back to Pai we passed some elephants walking on the street. There are some elephant schools in this area but we decided not to book a tour. I think this animal has its place in the free nature and not in an elephant farm.
